Happy second birthday sweet Heather. Have a wonderful party up there.
We miss you, we ache for you, you are not out of our minds or hearts for an instant.
You are a part of who we are, of everything we ever say or do. We love you eternally as your parents.
Endless love and kisses,
Mummy and daddy XXXX

As if you were here

I can see you standing at the table, just in front of your chair
Hypnotised by the ambient light, flickering,
as if dancing a happy birthday dance just for you
I can see those big deep eyes of yours,
scrunching and squinting, as if they are smiling with anticipation
As your peaches and cream coloured cheeks catch some of the glow
from the radiance of two small candles.
I can see your cone shaped hat
sitting crokked on your shiny hair, which softly frames your face
I can smell the scent of burning, mixing with the sugary sweet fragrance of icing.
It smells like excitement to me.
I can hear the "oohs" and "ahhs"
and the mechanical sound of camera shutters and flashes.
I can hear the sweetest laught from the belly of a two year old angeel,
and it sounds like the very voice of childhood in its purest form
I can feel the sense of magic and wonder that
you share so freely through your eyes
I can feel your delight and enthusiasm,
because I know you so well, and I'm beside you
Right beside you helping you blow the candles out,
filling your plate with cake, wiping your face and dress
I can feel the bittersweet emotion that comes along
with the reaching of any childhood milestone.
And I am so close I can almost touch you.
And I will remember you this way.
